Tom Pulles has almost 20 years of experience in the Pharmaceutical and Biotech Industry. After receiving his medical degree in 1999 at Utrecht University (NL), he worked as a general military physician in the Royal Netherlands Navy for two years. After that, he started his career in the pharmaceutical industry (Solvay, sanofi-aventis) as Medical Manager in the cardiovascular area.
In 2006, he became Medical Director at a privately owned company MEDCON International, experts in the development and implementation of independent high quality medical education in different teaching formats.
Four years later, he relocated to Switzerland with his family and started working as International Medical Director Hematology & Nephrology at Shire Pharmaceutical, and later in their Human Genetic Therapies department and Rare Diseases Business Unit at Shire International.
Through those years, he had the great pleasure to meet many patients, parents, caregivers, and physicians worldwide to obtain a better understanding of their real needs and challenges.
Currently at Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical, a biopharmaceutical company committed to bringing to patients novel products for the treatment of rare and ultra-rare diseases, he is the Head of Medical Affairs & Patient Advocacy, EMEA. Having the opportunity there of working so closely with patients, caregivers, families, and health care providers enlightens his medical heart and makes him even more committed and passionate about serving those with high unmet medical need, trying to help them leading a better life.
